Sugarhill is one of Tucson's historic Black neighborhoods, imposed under a segregationist, red-line policy following WWII. In recent decades, student housing and socio-economic problems have pushed the historic families out. The historic residents remain connected Sugarhill through the local churches and other organizations based in the the Donna Liggins Center, like the Sugarhill Coalition, NAACP, the neighborhood association and the annual Day After Thanksgiving (DAT) Sugarhill Family Reunion.
